Give A Word Of Thanks
A Traditional Thanksgiving
The holidays are approaching and it’s will soon be time for traditions to begin.
Some family friends have a great tradition that they put into practice at Thanksgiving dinner. They have the usual foods like the turkey, the stuffing, the rolls but beside everyone’s plate is five small kernels of corn. The kernels are the only part of the meal that are not intended for eating. The corn is to remind everyone at dinner of the first Thanksgivings.
When the Pilgrims were attempting to settle in America they had to face the lessening food supplies. In fact during their first winter many days there were only five kernels of corn for each person. The following Thanksgivings when the food was plentiful the Pilgrims continued to place five kernels of corn beside their settings to remind them of the previous harsh winter.
It’s important for all of us to reflect so that we are thankful for where we are at in life. Whitestone is a wonderful setting during the Thanksgiving season. Many guests are able to escape reality and reflect on their lives. This gives many a chance to be thankful for what is good in their lives.
