Enjoy Christmas in East Tennessee

The Christmas season offers a special time of the year where you and your loved ones can enjoy being together.  Like everyone, you have established traditions, rituals and gift giving. If you’re looking for something different but still wanting quality time with family and friends, consider spending it with us at the Whitestone Inn. You are sure to enjoy the beautifully decorated grounds, along with the rolling, and perhaps snow-covered hills. Don’t worry – you’ll be able to warm up after a stroll with your very own fireplace and a yummy cookie from the Farmhouse.

In our scenic corner of the Tennessee Valley, you can’t help but slow down the hectic pace of modern life.  Away from your normal schedule, you can find a place where your stress and worries disappear. And to help get you in the holiday spirit, each room features its own unique Christmas tree.

Check out some of our favorite Christmas season activities below:

Holiday Lights

Rock City’s spectacular display, the Enchanted Garden of Lights, is a can’t-miss part of many families’ holiday events.  Plan on having a buffet dinner with Santa himself, and you gain VIP admission to the grounds.  Head down to Chattanooga, where the one-of-a-kind Lighted Boat Parade signals the start of the Christmas holiday on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  After the several dozen decorated boats cruise from Ross Landing, the city puts on a booming fireworks show.

In Sevierville, witness a stunning combination of sight and sound with the Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland.  Holidays lights sync with seasonal music for an unforgettable show.  If you’re athletic-minded and have a bicycle, take in the Tour de Lights Bike Ride.  This is a five-mile, one-hour route through downtown and suburban Knoxville where participants decorate their bicycles in the spirit of the season.

Be sure to check out the lovely display of lights and decorations throughout the grounds at the Whitestone Inn as part of your exploration for Christmas cheer.

Christmas Events Galore

Of course, there’s more to a Christmas in East Tennessee than just light displays and shows.  Knoxville offers dozens of theatrical and dance productions, musical concerts, art exhibits and other activities with a decidedly holiday theme throughout December.

More notable among these are the Historic Ramsey House Christmas Dinner and the holiday exhibit at Museum of Appalachia.  At the Clarence Brown Theater on the University of Tennessee campus, take in a memorable production the classic Charles Dickens story, “A Christmas Carol,” which runs from November 26th to December 21st.

The Whitestone Inn features a special and unique Christmas menu throughout the month of December to help get your taste buds into the Christmas spirit, too.

For some people, the winter season isn’t complete without stepping out on the ice and gliding around on skates.  If that’s for you, take your whole family to the Knoxville Holidays on Ice, an outdoor rink located in Market Square.  Special events are scheduled for each night, including a disco lights and music on the weekends, ice sports on Tuesdays and character skates on Monday and Wednesdays.

One of most popular holiday activities in the area is the Tennessee Valley Railroad’s North Pole Limited in Chattanooga.  Children will especially love the “journey” to the North Pole as they enjoy refreshments, sing-alongs and storytelling.  A more special occasion event is the Christmas Special Dinner Train, which offers a four-course holiday feast as the train rolls through town, to Grand Junction and back again.

Your family can also enjoy ping-pong, pool, boards games, and more as you spend time together in the Whitestone Inn Farmhouse.
