History buffs shouldn’t miss a stop at the The Chattanooga Choo Choohotel, a converted train station that served all trains traveling south from 1909 to 1970. Spend some time walking around Ross’ Landing, which was the origin of the Trail of Tears, as well as the Riverwalk, which includes several significant Civil War sites. For a more in-depth experience, travel up to the popular Lookout Mountain, where the historic battle, called the “Battle Above the Clouds” took place. While there, don’t miss your chance to ride up the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. Enjoy the feeling of the breathtaking 72.7 % grade of the track near the top, making it the steepest passenger railway in the world, and reward yourself with stunning views at the top. While there, you may also want to take the time to visit Ruby Falls and Rock City Gardens.
