Weddings in East Tennessee

September 28th, 2011 by

East Tennessee has become the wedding capital of the eastern United States. Second only to Las Vegas, couples come to East TN to tie the knot. Half of the US population lives within a day’s drive and the vacation possibilities make it natural to combine both wedding and honeymoon. East Tennessee has always been a popular honeymoon choice, but for three decades, tens of thousands of couples have arrived to get married and then stayed for the honeymoon.

At Whitestone Country Inn, we are seeing an increase in destination weddings. Couples find us online and make all the arrangements without ever coming to the area until the wedding week. A bride from Connecticut and a groom from Arizona came with 96 friends and family and celebrated a wonderful week here at Whitestone. “We wanted our families to get to know each other and a neutral resort was a great way to accomplish that.”

Elopements to East Tennessee have been increasing for years. Interestingly, in a downturn in the economy, the total number of weddings in Sevier County has decreased slightly, but the number of people attending has gone up. We are seeing more elopements at Whitestone than ever before. Several elopements have come to us when bigger weddings were planned for later, but orders for military deployments necessitated an earlier wedding date.

Weddings for up to 200 guests are frequent at Whitestone. With the Chapel of the Good Sheppard and the adjacent heart shaped marble courtyard, it’s easy to plan an outdoor wedding with the chapel as a last minute option. (Weather in East TN is unpredictable.) The convenience of the Lion and Lamb Banquet Hall only 150 feet away insures that all the guests will be at the reception.

Gatlinburg will always have thousands of small chapel weddings each year; however, Whitestone will be the choice for that select bride and groom who want a more intimate setting in a pristine location.

Fifteen years of weddings from elaborate celebrations to a couple in a gazebo, Whitestone has helped over 1000 brides and grooms experience the wedding of their dreams. And thankfully, so many come back year after year for their anniversaries.

Life of a Whitestone Intern

February 10th, 2011 by

With sleepy eyes and in dire need of a green tea fix, I moseyed down the winding stairs of the Lion and Lamb already missing my comfortable, cozy Whitestone bed. Not anticipating the early morning’s chill, the bitter wind grabbed me the second I stepped outside, and I slammed the door. It was chilly. Though a ridiculous fear of frostbite polluted my mind, I dared to venture outside to my vehicle. While driving to the Farmhouse, warming myself by the homely fire awaiting me was the only thing I could think about. We meet in the Farmhouse office every morning a little before 8:30. Paul goes over the daily schedule with Wendy, Gabe, and I often stressing the importance of diligence. After that Paul directs me to where I’ll be working on that particular day, and that is where my stories stem from.

Beginning My Whitestone Internship

February 1st, 2011 by

I welcomed in the New Year of 2011 unsure about what laid in store for me while ringing my beloved Bulldogs on to a sounding triumph over the Wolverines in the 2011 Gator Bowl. After leaving Mississippi State University to intern at The Whitestone Country Inn, I felt like Bon Jovi just living on a prayer. I am, or should I say, was a Biomedical Engineer Major, but I have spent the past two semesters at college studying International Business with an emphasis in Mandarin Chinese. It was the search for direction that led me to make this decision, which Ralph Waldo Emerson so brilliantly put into words: Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

Or stay in the School House in one of the full suites there with private porches overlooking the Whitestone Property. Look forward to whirlpool tubs and waterfall showers in these suites along with kitchenettes.

In the Osprey Suite in the Lion and Lamb Victorian home, enjoy water views from the inviting room that has a whirlpool tub as well as a jetted shower. These rooms are some of the more intimate and romantic Watts Bar Lake rentals we have.

One of our favorite and most secluded rentals is in the Rose Cottage. The Oriole Suite is on the second level of the Rose Cottage and has a beautiful view of Watts Bar Lake from it’s tree-top porch.

So no matter the lodging experience you are looking for while visiting the lake, we have something for you at Whitestone Inn, an East Tennessee Bed and Breakfast.
